Pulse Registry at Libin Cardiovascular Institute at University of Calgary

The PULSE Registry will be a database of patient-reported measures (e.g., symptoms, health-related quality of life) and linked electronic health records. This project will systematically collect data from patients at the point-of-care in Calgary Zone cardiac clinics and allow integration of the patient perspective into clinical decision-making and risk-stratification research.

Mozell Core Analysis Lab at Libin Cardiovascular Institute at University of Calgary

The is a shared resource centre within the Libin Cardiovascular Institute that manages health data, provides biostatistical and analytical consultation and translates information into knowledge for action. Its mandate is to improve and enhance the quality of research conducted within the institute and increase investigators’s productivity. Its services are available to faculty, staff, and students of the Libin Institute.


University of Calgary Biostatistics Centre at the O’Brien Institute for Public Health

The UCBC remit is to position the University of Calgary as a leader in the development and application of biostatistical methodology for research problems on the cutting edge of biomedical research. Emphasis will be placed on analyzing so-called big data problems, and high-end computational and ‘statistical learning’ techniques (data science), in the context of, many of University’s existing strengths; for example, bioinformatics, genetics, infectious disease epidemiology, kinesiology, population ecology, and clinical trials.


Alberta Real World Evidence

The Alberta Real World Evidence Consortium is comprised of an expert pan-provincial research team from the Universities of Alberta and Calgary, and the Institute of Health Economics. The consortium engages key stakeholders to provide guidance and improve the value of RWE studies, convenes the best pan-provincial teams, provides world-class project support, including study design, execution, and knowledge sharing.
The Consortium is primarily concerned with projects that are evaluations of safety, effectiveness, and/or value of a technology or other intervention that is currently used in clinical practice (i.e., not an intervention being tested in a randomized controlled trial in a limited patient population).


Canadian Biosample Repository

The program aims to implement registration of new collections of human research biospecimens that are collected, stored, and used for health research. The 1,137,000 samples stored at our facility are tracked using CBSR’s own software, Biobank. Samples are given a unique identifier in software and assigned a location in our freezers. Biobank rapidly generates lists of requested samples so we can pull more then a thousand samples a day. Biobank is an open source collaboration between CBSR, & Ontario Health Services, available for free on GitHub along with several other open source tools we have developed


NeuroTechnology Cores at Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary

Cross-cutting NeuroTechnology Cores create an environment that acts as a springboard for creativity and excellence in research. These cores provides researchers across all areas of brain and mental health with the most advanced equipment available, enabling researchers to be competitive with the top neuroscience facilities in the world. Cores include optogenics, advanced microscopy, molecular analysis, transcriptomics, neuroimaging, non-invasive neurostimulation , and more.


Kinetix Fitness and Wellness Centre at the University of Calgary

Located within the Teaching, Research & Wellness Building on the Foothills Medical Centre site, the Kinetix Fitness and Wellness Centre is a 5,000-square-foot facility that provides a user-friendly exercise and testing environment for clinical trials that include exercise programs as part of their protocols. Kinetix allows industry-sponsors to take advantage of equipment designed to support a breadth of physiological and performance-related assessments. Highly qualified staff can offer consultations, equipment training and technical assistance for clinical trials conducted at the facility.


Featured Assets

In collaboration with the provincial government, a number of academic and research organizations have introduced initiatives to position Alberta as an even more attractive destination for conducting clinical trials. These include initiatives to improve start-up times, enhance patient recruitment, centralize trial management and enable access to high-quality medical data.
