Heritage Medical Research Clinic at the University of Calgary

The Heritage Medical Research Clinic provides University of Calgary researchers with a wide range of services and state of the art facilities designed to support clinical research, including 8 rooms for patient examination, with 1 dedicated pediatric room and 1 dedicated disability room, in addition to ICU facilities and nursing services to laboratory equipment and an on-site Alberta Health Services research pharmacy. The clinic offers specimen collection, phlebotomy, lab services, as well as ECG machines, infusion pumps, oxygen and suction apparatus, and more.

The Dale Sheard Centre for Solutions in Women’s Health is a dedicated research space available for researchers and clinicians that study women’s health issues at all ages and stages of life, including reproductive health and preconception, pregnancy, mental health, urogynecology, mature women’s health, and ovarian and gynecologic cancer. The space is equipped with three interview rooms, four examination rooms, touchdown computers, medication storage and preparation room, laboratory specimen collection room, meeting room with telehealth and AV capabilities, and portable telehealth capability in all rooms.


Pediatric Clinical Investigation Unit at the Stollery Children’s Hospital at University of Alberta

The Pediatric Clinical Investigation Unit at Stollery Children’s Hospital provides extensive diagnostic and clinical research services, including performing tests, starting IVs, and administering medications. he space is staffed by RNs, is equipped with three curtained treatment spaces, and has an enclosed private room. The facility features advanced equipment, such as the Pea Pod Infant Body Composition System, and supports clinical trials. It also offers access to hospital emergency services and comprehensive laboratory, pharmacy, and imaging support.

In collaboration with the provincial government, a number of academic and research organizations have introduced initiatives to position Alberta as an even more attractive destination for conducting clinical trials. These include initiatives to improve start-up times, enhance patient recruitment, centralize trial management and enable access to high-quality medical data.
